SUZANNE is my mother’s name. I already talked to you about my mother a few letters ago. (H is for HOMELESS – Behind the nameless a story) She loves music and with her condition it’s like if she never past the 80’s. She asked me, a few years ago, if I could make her a “cassette”. I had to do a crash course on new technology and CD’s.
When I was young I thought it was pretty amazing that my mother had a SONG named after her: Suzanne, by Leonard Cohen. At the time I didn’t understand the words but something in that song was, somehow, very soothing for my young abandoned heart (my mother left when I was 8). Now when I listen to it, I am amazed by the mastery of this amazing poet. In many of his songs his presence is astonishing. In his words he captures emotions and feelings at such a deep level, that I find myself moved more than I would’ve imagine.
Today’s letter is brought to you by Leonard Cohen. 😉
With great respect and love!

The Suzanne I am connected to is the version from the eighties by the rock band Journey. I have never heard this one by Mr. Cohen.

It is from Raised on Radio. I can still remember riding along a back country road with the windows down and the music blaring. Only the groundhogs in the ditches heard it i guess.
