That’s how it feels.
2 weeks ago I’ve given up winning Nanowrimo.
And for a reason I ignore, this week-end I decided that I would win.
So I wrote close to 30K words in 2 days.
The last 3 hours it fell like using my blood to write every word.
I don’t need to be that intense in my life. This year have been the worst year of my life. Intensely emotional. I’m not used to that. Nanowrimo couldn’t be different. I had to be intense about it. Intense about something else then my parents death.
December is there again with the memory of the call telling me that my dad died. I just can’t stand being in my body right now.
So I write like my life depends on it. And in a way it’s true. For me. For my heart.
Thank you for playing. Thank you for the love, the cheers. Thank you.
With great respect and love!

My condolences on your loss. NaNoWriMo was on my critique groups radar several years ago and we signed up. We all won the lovely certificate but lost all pride and self-respect. I abandoned everything I learned in grad school in order to pump out that work count. Who knew that passive structure gives almost twice as many words. We haven’t “done” NaNoWriMo officially sense. And this is the first year, I’ve been brave enough to read that novel written in haste. It’s in edits now and I’ve forgiven its many sins as I also correct it. This year we did NaNo unofficially. We didn’t actually enter, but it held all of us to pumping out as many words as possible OR in some cases it was revisions of a book. At any rate, let the writing lead you. Our emotions can get the best of us but writing will soothe you. Hugs.

Thank you for sharing this with me. Different stories will pull for a different structure. I use Nano mainly to explore new ideas, new characters or new genre. Other stories I had a great plan and mostly sticked to it. This year I needed to write freely, without constraint, just write.

We have an amazing amount in common. In November 2013 I was actually hosting a NaNo writing party when I got the call telling me my father didn’t have much time. The other writers surrounded me with love and support and (I think) actually packed a suitcase for me so I could focus on getting that emergency flight from northern England to southern California. I tried NaNo again this year, even though—like you—I kept thinking of that phone call. So it was a solitary, in-my-own-head kind of journey. But I did win this time, and hope to have the book polished and published this spring. My congratulations on your win, and my most heartfelt condolences on your loss. Let us know when that book hits the (virtual) shelves.
Oh, and we have one other thing in common. I was blitzed today too! Woohoo!!!!

Winning NaNoWriMo in the manner you did with that last-minute burst of determination is a huge feat. Be proud of that because I know it sucks to feel like you’re bleeding progress after giving up but you made it through. Maybe that can be one of the positive things that came out of 2014…what you describe as the worse year of your life.
Sorry to hear about your dad. As we’ve entered into this New Year, here’s hoping that 2015 is more enjoyable for you, starting with your blog being the recipient of today’s BLITZ. Cheers to you for pushing through the rough patches of 2014 and coming out of the other side as a Winner with over 30K words under her belt!
